Induction Evaluation: 2 Boys - 1 Can
Induction Evaluation: 2 Boys – 1 Can
All in all, I believe that my group and I worked very hard on our short film and tried to make the narrative flow well and the continuity as perfect as we could get it. The biggest positive I believe we had as a group, was being able to discuss and identify what shot would look most effective. We had a range of different shot types for our film, meeting the specifications on the target sheet for the induction task. Our aim was to make the shots link with our genre of comedy. We tried to make it a comedy as we tried to sneak a drink into skills. I believe this was a good narrative as it added the comedic effect using sound effects we also put in. Furthermore, the over the top acting and close ups really show why this is a comedy. My favourite shot was when I walked through the door and I finally came into shot with a heartbeat over the top as my whole head was drenched in sweat indicating how worried I was. However, we did have a few problems with continuity. First of all we filmed it I skills, so if people in the background were caught on film, in the next shot they may not have been there as we filmed over two days. Also, the next day Joel couldn’t find his top that he wore on the first day, therefore he had to wear a different one which intern messed up the continuity. We tried our best to make sure that we didn’t get this in shot. The bigger issue I thought was the positioning. Because we were in skills, the next day we filmed two people were in the two spaces that we were in the day before, which meant we had to move positions and try not to make it look obvious when filming. Doing this task really showed me how much you need to think about even when making a short film. Continuity is the biggest thing to think about, as you need to make sure everything is correct, because if not it makes for a poor film. We ran into this problem a few times when editing, however because we could edit it wasn’t too bad, so it wasn’t noticeable at all. In conclusion, I enjoyed doing this task and next time, I wold make sure I had enough time to film all the shots in one day so there aren’t any complications with the continuity. Also, I would take a close look at the shot types we were filming and if we could make them better, if that’s adding things to the scene or taking them away.
